Winston-Salem Police reported that three people were killed in what seemed to be a murder-suicide early on Tuesday morning.

Chief William Penn, Jr. stated during a press conference that David Lee Housden, 55, killed his two children, Alexander David Housden, 20, and Kaylee Nicole Housden, 16, before taking his own life.

According to authorities, the incident was reported by the children’s mother, who was present at the residence. The children’s deaths marked the 43rd and 44th killings in Winston-Salem this year; at this time last year, there had been 33.

The deceased were found by police about 3:30 in the morning after they reacted to a gunshot near Water Lily Circle, on the southeast part of the city, according to Penn. The road passes through the Robbins Brook subdivision, which is located south of Kernersville Road and off Robbins Road in southeast Winston-Salem.

Alexander Housden was a junior at Winston-Salem State University and Kaylee Housden was a student at Atkins High School. According to officials, Kaylee was on the band color guard at her school.

Alexander had transferred from Western Carolina University and had begun attending school at WSSU in the fall of 2022. He was majoring in exercise science and minoring in biology.
